Shimamura has gotten a bit expensive and much more popular over the years since I posted this. Itogofuku is still cheap. My heavy-smoker friend can inhale Takara-bune but not Kuro-fune. I personally prefer Koike and so do all my Japanese friends.

As for changing the middle bamboo (or wood) section(called RAU and pronounced RAH-OO), some pipe stores in Japan have these, and you could probably find a length of bamboo from other sources. Bamboo naturally tapers, so you can cut it down until it fits the diameter of the metal ends. Interestingly, the mouth piece usually has a different diameter from that of the smoking piece so they both can perfectly fit on both ends of the bamboo.Russell Stutlerhttp://www.stutler.ccnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25299238.post-5858485117032301982014-10-06T10:38:44.445+09:002014-10-06T10:38:44.445+09:00It's not "sake" which is rice wine. ...It's not "sake" which is rice wine. It's a type of shochu which is stronger than rice wine and has a much different taste. This one is made by distilling buckwheat--the same ingredient used in soba noodles.

BTW, "Sake" means both rice wine and booze in Japanese.Davidhttp://sleepytako.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25299238.post-44287274335816333172014-09-27T18:57:44.701+09:002014-09-27T18:57:44.701+09:00Burger, is a popular spicy vegetarian fast food di...Burger, is a popular spicy vegetarian fast food dish.
